Sports : All-State Softball Teams Announced

All-state softball selections were announced on Tuesday afternoon. In Class 1, state champion Maysville placed two players on the first team, in sophomore infielder Kristin Strong and senior pitcher Katie Applegarth.

King City junior Sami Hill is a first-team infield selection. Two pitchers from northern Missouri, along with Applegarth, were named first-teamers, in Westran junior Mackenzie Hombs and Knox County junior Lauren Dale.

King City's Lexi Herbert is a first-team catcher, with Westran senior Kelsey Link, Knox County junior Paige Couch, and King City senior Jordan Breckenridge named first-teamers, along with Scotland County senior Bethany Rader, as a utility player.

Area players named second-team all-state in Class 1 are Stanberry sophomore infielder Madesen Gage, North Harrison sophomore infielder Haley Craig, Polo junior pitcher Sidney Copeland, Maysville junior catcher Jackie Haley, Stanberry utility player, senior Riley Bremer, and Norborne sophomore utility player Madison McKinney.

First-team softball selections, for Class 2, include Higginsville senior catcher Samantha Davis, North Platte senior infielder Jessica Heese, North Platte junior outfielder Regan Nash, and Marceline senior utility player Morgan McCormick.

Class 2 all-state second team selections include Brookfield senior pitcher Sammi Overton, West Platte junior pitcher Abby Summers, LeBlond senior catcher Sophie Gentry, Carrollton junior infielder Celena Kipping, Brookfield senior infielder Alexis Lindsay, Lexington senior outfielder TeriAnna Mohler, LeBlond junior outfielder Audrey Glenski, and Brookfield senior outfielder Alesa Frey. Bishop LeBlond won the Class 2 state championship last month in Springfield.

Two Cameron Dragons were named Class 3 first-team selections, in junior pitcher Ashley Wills and junior catcher Taylor Hamioton. Three players from state champion Centralia were named first-team selections. Chillicothe junior infielder Samantha Baldwin and Smithville freshman utility player Lexie Duncan were named all-state second-teamers.
