Sports : NCMC Basketball Sweeps Southwestern Spartans

The North Central Missouri College women's and men's basketball teams swept a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at the Ketcham Community Center.

The Lady Pirates improved their record to 2-1 with a 69-58 victory over the Southwestern (Iowa) Community College Spartans. Lexi Hope led NCMC with 18 points, Kayla Oetterer contributed 14 points, with Samone Redditt adding 13. Brooke Parton grabbed 10 rebounds.

North Central, in Saturday's game, fell behind in the first half by double digits, but went on a late first-half run to pull within three (31-28) at the break. The teams traded baskets until the last five minutes of regulation, when NCMC pulled away for the win.

The Pirate men beat Southwestern by a final score of 59-54, with Avion Ashford scoring 11 points, with Tyrell Thirkield and Jamin Brandt both adding 10. The NCMC men are now 3-1 on the young season.

Both NCMC squads travel to Iowa Falls, Iowa on Wednesday night for a road doubleheader against the Ellsworth Community College Panthers. The women's game tips at 5:30, with the men's game at 7:30. Pregame hits the air at 5:20 on Hot Country Z 101.7 and www.kgozfm.com, with Tom Johnson on the play-by-play call.
