Chillicothe police say a fire led to the arrest of a Chillicothe resident accused of growing marijuana at his home.
Police said Mark Sprague was accused of producing a controlled substance with intent to distribute it.
Police said officers were called to the residence after firemen on the scene said they believed the fire may have been deliberately set.
The fire late Friday afternoon at 108 East 2nd Street remained under investigation today. The Chillicothe Fire Department described the blaze as suspicious.
The fire department quoted owner, Mark Sprague, as saying, when he arrived home, he found siding melted at a back door, and when he opened the door, it was full of smoke.
Sprague was outside the residence when firefighters arrived. Firefighters, upon arrival, found light smoke coming from the vents on the roof. Once inside, they found papers burning on top of a gas stove with its burners on. The oven also was on.
Firefighters said the fire went out when the stove was turned off. They then used a fan to remove smoke from the residence.
Chillicothe police and a state fire marshal's office representative have been involved in the investigation.
No injuries were reported.
