The offices are Prosecuting Attorney, which currently is at $45,000, County Clerk, which currently has a salary of $38,000, and Presiding Commissioner, which currently is at $27,000. Those office positions are up for election next year.

Salaries for elected officials in Grundy County already are at 100% of the base amount related to assessed valuation.

Grundy County is a 3rd Class county, with salaries based on assessed valuations between $100,000,000 and $131,000,000. Assessed valuation in Grundy County this year is slightly over $120,500,00---a long way from the amount needed to increase salaries using the 100% percent base.

The Grundy County Salary Commission meets every 2 years---the year before some of the county offices are up for election. When the salary commission last met in 2011, members, on a 4 to 3 vote, approved a motion to leave the salaries at the existing amounts. That meant no pay increase for the offices that had elections last year to determine who would hold those positions when the new terms began this year.

It was noted a cost of living increase---also called a cola--could be implemented to boost salaries. However, the motion approved in November of 2011 was to make no changes in the compensation.

The salaries for offices in Grundy County that had new terms beginning earlier this year are the Sheriff at $42,000; the Assessor, Collector-Treasurer, and Public Administrator, all at $38,000; Associate Commissioners slightly over $25,000; and the Coroner at $11,000.

There are 10 members on the Salary Commission. They are the County Commissioners, County Clerk, Collector-Treasurer, Assessor, Prosecuting Attorney, Public Administrator, and Coroner. The person elected chairman of the Salary Commission does not vote, except to break ties.

Not affected by the Salary Commission are the Associate Circuit Court judge and the Circuit Clerk because they are state-paid positions.

The Grundy County Salary Commission meets next Tuesday afternoon at 4 o'clock at the County Commissioners room.
