Through two innings of Wednesday night's Class 3 sectional softball game at Cameron, the Smithville Lady Warriors led 2-0. That was a bad place to be for the District 16 champions.

For the second straight game, Cameron's offense exploded late, scoring seven runs over the final three innings, sending the Lady Dragons to the state quarterfinals with a 9-3 win over visiting Smithville. Mallory Bashor led the Cameron offensive attack with two home runs, while Maizey Hughes was 4-for-5, and Taylor Hamilton 3-for-4. Hughes and Bashor each had three RBI's, while Ashley Wills one-hit the Lady Warriors in the victory. Cameron had four errors, directly leading to Smithville's early advantage.

The rally for Cameron was similar to Saturday's district championship game at Danner Park in Chillicothe, when the Lady Dragons, trailing 4-1 going into the sixth inning against Trenton, scored three runs in the sixth, and three in the eighth for the 7-4 win.

Cameron, with Wednesday night's victory, improves to 19-5 on the season, ending Smithville's season at 22-8. Cameron will play a powerhouse on the road in Saturday's state quarterfinals, with Harrisonville hosting the Lady Dragons.
