Nicole Lister, 24, of Eagleville, Mo., pleaded guilty last month to first-degree involuntary manslaughter for her role in her daughter’s death last year in Harrison County. She was sentenced to seven years in prison.

Ms. Lister originally was scheduled to stand trial Oct. 29 on charges of second-degree murder and child abuse in Grundy County Circuit Court. The case was initially filed in Harrison County, but Ms. Lister’s attorney filed for and was granted a change of venue last December.

According to court documents, Ms. Lister called 911 early in the morning Sept. 8, 2012, to report her nearly 8-month-old daughter, Kiraleigh Grace Wheeler, was not breathing. The child was pronounced dead at an area hospital.

Ms. Lister allegedly admitted to police that sometime between Sept. 7 and 8 she picked up her daughter by one arm, then dropped her on the floor. Ms. Lister later awoke from a nap and discovered her daughter was lifeless, according to a probable cause statement filed by Harrison County Sheriff Josh Eckerson.

Preliminary autopsy results revealed that Kiraleigh suffered from multiple injuries that were in various stages of healing, according to the probable cause statement.
