Terms associated with the game of golf are prominent in a fund-raising event later this month to benefit the Green Hills Animal Shelter at Trenton. The name of the event is “Putt Putt Mutt.”

It is scheduled Saturday, October 26th on the circle drive entrances near Trenton High School.

Advance registration is to be done at the animal shelter on Highway 6 East or on-line at the web site There's an October 19th registration deadline if participants would like to have a t-shirt in conjunction with the event. The costs vary: ten dollars for one entry; 20 dollars for an entry plus a t-shirt; and 25 dollars for the entry, a t-shirt, and a bandana for the dog.

A route will be marked with numbered golf flags. Contestants with their dogs are to walk in a
circle fashion to ten flag events, perform the task stipulated in one minute or less.

The amount of time it takes to complete the task will be the score for that event. As a example, if
balancing a treat on your dogs' head lasts ten seconds, the score would be ten. If it takes 60 seconds to accomplish the task, the score is 60. As in golf, the lower the score, the better. A “do-over” can be purchased for one dollar with the lowest score to be recorded for that particular event.

Scorecards will be provided. Time-keepers are volunteers of Green Hills Animal Shelter.

Here are the specific contests. Balance a bone shaped treat on a plate on top of the dogs head;
dogs are to raise a paw and place the paw in the hand of the human; dogs crouch under a pole the height of the dogs' chest; dogs catch a treat gently tossed by a human; dogs sit upon command and remain sitting; dogs “speak” after a human command; dogs enter and exit a hoop the height of the dogs'legs; dogs stand on hind legs and twirl; dogs maneuver between cones without knocking them over.

A costume contest is another category. Doggie bags will be available for any cleanup purposes.

Details and a registration form for the October 26th fund raiser are available at Green Hills
Animal Shelter or from their web site. Registration time is from 8 to 8:30 that Saturday morning.

Prizes will be awarded for the best scores.
