Sports : MHS Wildcats Wear Down Knox County, Win 31-6

The Milan Wildcats combination of stout defense and steady running game is running at full gear, with the Wildcats able to pull away from a stubborn Knox County team on Friday night, winning 31-6 in the Tri-Rivers Conference opener, broadcast LIVE on KTTN FM 92.3.

The Wildcats offense was led by fullback Kevin DeRyke, who scored three touchdowns in the victory, Milan's 25th straight in regular season play. The Wildcats totaled 303 yards of offense in the game, a somewhat pedestrian number, but nearly three times the 122 yards given up by Milan's crushing defensive corps.

The game was 10-6 at halftime, before Milan was able to control the clock, and the scoreboard, scoring all 21 points after the break to cruise to the win. The Wildcats will host the Scotland County Tigers this Friday night (October 4th) at 7 o'clock, with coverage on KTTN FM 92.3 beginning with "Football Frenzy" at 6 o'clock. Dennis Stephenson will provide the play-by-play call. The Eagles, now 1-4 on the season after losing its conference opener, play the Putnam County Midgets this week.
