Sports : Trenton Volleyball Finishes 2-2 At Lathrop Tournament

The Trenton Lady Bulldog volleyball team had a golden opportunity to reach bracket play, and defend its runner-up finish from 2012, in Saturday's Lathrop Tournament, but a decisive loss to the host Lady Mules ended the THS hopes of a winning day.

Lathrop, in the fourth and final match of the day for Trenton, blitzed the Lady Bulldogs, by final scores of 25-11, 25-6. The loss for Trenton came after back-to-back wins, against Plattsburg, 25-23, 25-18; and Hogan Prep, 25-10, 25-10. Trenton started its day in disappointing fashion, falling to Wellington-Napoleon, 25-20, 25-18.

Trenton's statistical leaders for the day were freshman Alex Ewald with 45 digs and 26 assists, Lakisha Hughs with two blocks and 19 kills, Sarah Walker with two blocks, and Alex Ewald combining with Hayley Matthews for 16 aces (eight each).

Trenton opens the new week with a home match on Monday night against Hogan Prep, followed by a road match at Hamilton on Tuesday.
