The report also stated a rear seat passenger died from injuries received in the wreck.

The highway patrol said the driver, 80 year old Betty Kelly of Polo, and one passenger, 83 year old Beulah Smith of Piketon, Ohio received moderate injuries.

Both were taken by ambulance to Research Medical Center of Kansas City.

A third occupant of the car, identified as 86 year old Norma Smith – also from Piketon,
Ohio – was pronounced dead at the scene.

The patrol investigator said Betty Kelly was northbound on Highway 131 when her car traveled across the eastbound lanes of U-S 50 and entered into the path of a another vehicle driven by 55 year old Mary Miller of Warrensburg. Ms. Miller apparently wasn't hurt. Both vehicles were demolished in the accident just before
5 o'clock Thursday afternoon in rural Johnson County. All persons were using seat belts.
