The St. Joseph Police Department has taken over the investigation into the death of a woman found on Sept. 13 placed in a homemade-style box.
Tangela A. Fisher, 35, of St. Joseph, was found by a passerby near a dry creek bed on East Dye Store Road in Platte County, just north of Weston, Mo.
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office announced Wednesday the metro squad had determined the death occurred in St. Joseph. Local police said they had assumed the lead role in the investigation, but had no new information to release.
Platte County officials released information Tuesday that said Ms. Fisher was placed inside a homemade coffin, surrounded by various men’s and women’s clothes. The box appeared to be made from materials such as house siding, plywood and a portion of a Foosball table.
Inside was a black shirt with the writing AEGIS BALLISTIC MISSILE DEFENSE and a Trojan riding a horse. It also included jeans and a hounds-tooth ball cap. All the clothing was of different sizes.
Authorities said Ms. Fisher was living in St. Joseph and “was known to frequent the Downtown area.” Police are looking for any information that may help solve her suspicious death.
