Head-on tractor trailer crash sends 1 to hospital near Salisbury

A central Missouri resident was hurt when the sport utility vehicle he was driving collided head-on with a tractor trailer unit south of Salisbury.

The highway patrol reports 54-year old Sam Strodtman of Armstrong was taken to University Hospital at Columbia with serious injuries. The truck driver, 45-year old Brad Benge of Eldon, Iowa, was not reported hurt.

The accident happened Thursday morning five miles south of Salisbury on Switzer Mill Road, when the westbound SUV turned into the path of the eastbound truck.

The SUV was demolished and the truck was extensively damaged.

Benge was wearing a seat belt, but Strodtman was not.
