Grundy R-5 Board of Education approves teacher pay raises

The Grundy R-5 Board of Education has agreed to add $750.00 to the base pay for certified teachers, making the compensatino $29,000 for next school year.  The increase on the base is 2.7 percent.  In addition, qualifying teachers will be allowed to move steps on the salary schedule for experience and education.

The R-5 Board approved an increase in the number of sick days an employee can accumulate from a total of 50 days to 60.  The board also agreed to have non-certified employees paid for unused days when leaving the district.  Certified employees already have been paid for unused days when they leave Grundy R-5.  A three percent increase for all non-certified employees has been approved, and the board agreed to cover the cost of a 5.7 percent increase in employee health insurance coverage for next school year.  That amounts to an increase of about $12,000, which is approximately $26.00 a month more per employee.

Administrator pay increases in the Grundy R-5 District were announced in February.  The total cost for salary and benefit increases for R-5 employees is about $87,000.  All non-certified personnel were re-hired at this week’s meeting, with the votes unanimous, except for High School Custodian Gene Schreffler, who received no votes from Larry Cook and Mike Herrold.

Several extra duty contracts have been approved, and a few more tabled until next month’s meeting.  A contract for a 7th through 12th grade science position has been offered to an unnamed individual.  The name will be released when a signed contract has been received.

The Grundy R-5 Board approved a cooperative agreement with Newtown-Harris for high school girls softball and high school boys baseball for the fall 2016 season, contingent on approval by the Newtown-Harris Board of Education.

The last day of classes this school year at Grundy R-5 is Friday, May 13th.  It will be an early out with classes dismissed at Galt at 11:30 and Humphreys at 11:40.  

The Grundy R-5 Board has agreed to advertise for bids to mow both school campuses (Galt and Humphreys) .  Maintenance updates have been reviewed, including roof and gutter repairs.  The Grundy R-5 Elementary building had a water sealant applied to most of its outside walls to protect them from weathering.  

Oaths of Office have been administered to Board members Danny Berry and Randy Radcliff.  In a board reorganization, Alex Peterson was chosen asPresident, Mike Herrold as Vice-President, and Larry Cook as Treasurer.  The secretary’s position will be determined later.  Melody Shipley has resigned from the secretarial position on the Grundy R-5  School Board.
