The Grundy R-5 Board of Education has agreed to have a baseball program in both the Fall and Spring.

The district also will continue to have a track program in the Spring with students allowed to participate in both track and baseball. Grundy R-5 has a girls softball program in the Fall.

Superintendent Rob Deaver said he’s unaware of any request to have a girls softball program in both the Fall and Spring.

To have the same number of sports for both boys and girls, the Spring baseball program is for both boys and girls. Superintendent Deaver said it’s his understanding several schools have a baseball team open to both boys and girls.

Currently, the Missouri State High School Activities Association has post-season play in baseball during the spring only. Girls softball has post-season opportunities in both the fall and spring.

The board employed district physical education teacher Ethan Bunnell to be assistant baseball coach and Grundy R-5 High School Principal Randy Huffman was employed as an assistant softball coach.

The Grundy R-5 High School graduation date for this school year is the afternoon of Sunday, May 7th at 2 o’clock at the school in Galt.

The board of education also approved a new anti-bullying policy.
