One of the principles under which electric cooperatives operate is “Concern for Community” and Grundy Electric Cooperative showed it follows this principle through a recent donation that will help rebuild the Mercer County Senior Center.

The cooperative presented a $10,000 check to assist with rebuilding the center on the square in Princeton, Missouri. In April of 2016, a fire destroyed the center’s former home.

Grundy Electric Board President Dan Lentz and General Manager Scott Wilson presented the $10,000 donation to Mercer County Senior Center Board President Gene Anderson, and Board Members Guy Evoritt, Tom Clark, Barbara McKern, and Center Administrator Ronna Clapham. The funds will be used to purchase kitchen equipment.

Half of the funds for the Senior Center project came from a dollar-for-dollar matching grant from CoBank. CoBank, based in Greenwood Village, Colorado, is a cooperative bank serving agribusinesses, rural infrastructure providers, and associations throughout the United States. Under the bank’s “Sharing Success” program, CoBank matches contributions up to $5,000 for its cooperative borrowers. The money can be used to help nonprofit organizations in the community.

The dollar-for-dollar matching grant fund allowed Grundy Electric to assist in this worthwhile community fundraising effort and improve the quality of life in the community.

“We are very pleased that Grundy Electric is able to assist the Mercer County Senior Center, which is the hub of the community,” said Grundy Electric Board President Dan Lentz. “Leveraging our support for this effort with CoBank allowed the cooperative to donate much-needed funding to this worthy project.”
