Grundy County’s unemployment rate surges nearly one point from June to July

Grundy County’s July unemployment rate climbed to 5 1/2 percent.  That number is up from a rate of 4.6 percent of June.  The latest rate represents 267 unemployed out of a civilian labor force of 4,865.

Rates among area counties for July range from Linn County (8.2 percent) down to Worth County (3.8 percent).

Unemployment rates into other area counties include Sullivan at 6.4 percent; Carroll at 5.7; Caldwell, Clinton, and DeKalb all at 5.6; and Mercer County at 5 percent even.

Area counties coming in with less than 5 percent unemployment in July include Chariton (4.9), Putnam (4.6), Daviess (4.5), Harrison (4.2), and Livingston at 4.1 percent.  The average in the state of Missouri is 4.7 percent.

One year ago (July 2015), Grundy County’s unemployment rate stood at 5.3 percent, with 259 out of work.
