Numerous old railroad ties burned on the Steve Gonringer property west of Trenton late yesterday afternoon and last night.

Although the exact cause was not known, it was believed a grass fire spread to that location off 5th street.

Firefighters from the Grundy County Rural and Jamesport departments fought the blaze.

Firefighters were on the scene more than four hours.

It eventually was decided by Gonringer to let the fire burn itself out.
