A new Green Hills Women’s Shelter in Trenton will be built to the immediate east of the Grundy County Law Enforcement Center, with construction set to begin no later than August 2018.

The project is expected to cost around $2,000,000, and when completed, will provide additional bed space, in comparison with the current Trenton facility.  Areas for counseling, food preparation, and restrooms are also planned for the new building.  The new shelter will allow for both in-patient and out-patient services.

Funding includes $500,000 in Neighborhood Assistance Program tax credits, which mostly have been used.  Other financial sources, including private fundraising, will also be utilized.

The Green Hills Women’s Shelter has served over 200 people over the past year.  There are facilities at both Trenton and Cameron.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors for the shelter, Cathie Smith, and volunteer Barb Spencer, spoke about the new shelter as guest speakers at Thursday afternoon’s Trenton Rotary Club meeting.
