When Governor Nixon this week put restrictions on 115 point five million dollars in new or increased state spending, the withholding affects two major lake projects within the Green Hills Region.

According to the Governor’s office, one million, 700 thousand dollars has been withheld for the Sullivan County Lake project north of Milan; and two million dollars in state funding has been withheld for the Caldwell County lake project southeast of Hamilton.

The state budgeted funds could be released by the Governor once he determines the state has sufficient revenue to meet its obligations.

In keeping Missouri with a balanced state budget, the Governor restricted $115.5 million while protecting key priorities including K-12 classrooms, higher education, and services for Missourians with mental illnesses and developmental disabilities.

Spending restrictions are described as necessary because of less-than-projected revenue growth for the fiscal year ending on June 30.

While collections from individual income taxes, sales taxes, and withholding taxes all rose significantly in fiscal year 16, net corporate income taxes decreased by 35 percent compared to the previous year.
