Grundy County Rural Firefighters responded to a hay bale fire west of Edinburg Tuesday evening, August 16.

Upon arrival at 847 Southwest 3rd Street, an estimated 50 to 100 bales were smoldering.

Firefighters were told by a farm hand the bales would be moved and allowed to burn.

Although the bales were 50 to 60 feet from a machine shed there was gravel between the bales and the building, and the wind was not blowing towards the structure, so it was determined it was not threatened.

The cause of the smoldering bales was unknown and the fire department asked to be contacted if needed.
