Chillicothe Fire Department provided mutual aid to the Green Township Fire Protection District yesterday afternoon at the scene of a transformer on fire at 16100 LIV Road 427 which is near Utica.

Chillicothe Chief Darrell Wright said the pad transformer was located next to the Verizon Wireless cell phone tower and provided electricity for the tower.

When Chillicothe firefighters arrived, they found the transformer fully involved.

The transformer is owned by Farmers Electric Cooperative. There were two FEC employees on the scene as well as trucks from Green Township and Mooresville.

Wright said Farmers Electric cut the power to the transformer and about 750 gallons of water was used to extinguish the burning oil inside the transformer.

All damage was contained to the transformer.
