A Chillicothe man received serious injuries when the motorcycle he was operating overturned off Highway 190 northwest of Chillicothe.

43-year old John Ashford was transported to Hedrick Medical Center and later flown by medical helicopter to Truman Medical Center in Kansas City.

The accident occurred Saturday night approximately three miles northwest of Chillicothe on Highway 190 as the motorcycle was westbound at high speed. The bike went off the right side of the pavement onto the gravel shoulder, overturned onto its side and slid along the gravel shoulder throwing Ashford from the machine. The motorcycle returned to the pavement and came to rest in the eastbound lane of highway 190.

The motorcycle had moderate damage and the patrol reports Ashford was wearing safety equipment.
