The Chillicothe fire department responded to a rural location on LIV Road 235, where several bales and small acreage were observed on fire late afternoon Thursday.

The fire was on property owned by Larry James.

Fire Lieutenant Tracy Bradley reported ten bales and the acreage around them were on fire. The owner was quoted as saying he had set a small fire on the back side of a pond; then a gust of wind came up and caught the grass on fire.

The Chillicothe fire department reported 400 gallons of water was used to wet the bales.

The owner was asked to watch them as firefighters were not able to completely extinguish the fire in the hay bales. The department was at the scene for one hour.
