The Experimental Aircraft Association chapter 944 of Chillicothe holds a fundraiser to help finance costs of to send young adults to Oshkosh, Wisconsin and learn about careers in aviation.
While at the “advanced air academy”, the youth experienced some of the skills needed to build an airplane and viewed thousands of aircraft that had been flown in for the occasion.
Area youth attending the week-long camp in Wisconsin last month were Tony Garcia of Trenton, Kyle Elliot of Hamilton, Brett Shaffer of Chillicothe and Mason Taylor of Maysville.
The 24th annual fly in and drive in breakfast at the airport three miles east of Chillicothe is this Saturday, August 20th with events from 7 o’clock until 2 o’clock.
Pancakes and sausage breakfast are served 7 to 10 a-m. Four dollars for adults; three dollars for children five to 12; and free for those younger than five years old.
Free plane rides for youth from 8 to 17 will be available from 9 to 2 if weather permits.
Other events include a static display of airplanes, face painting for kids, and lunch served by Wabash Barbecue. Money raised at the Chillicothe event also goes toward scholarships for youth with a high level of interest in obtaining a pilots’ license.
At last years fly in, breakfast was served to more than 320 persons. Local pilots flew 167 youth for their very first flight. They also flew 62 adults and youth who had flown before.
