Kansas City Chiefs veteran defensive lineman Mike DeVito has announced his retirement, publishing a letter in the Bangor (Maine) Daily News, saying that “there are more important things in life than football.  As hard as it is to say goodbye to the game that has made me the man I am, I cannot wait for the second half of this journey through life”.

DeVito played in nine seasons with the New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs during his professional career, returning to Kansas City for one final season in 2015 after a torn Achilles tendon cut short his 2014 campaign.  He entered the NFL as an un-drafted rookie out of the University of Maine in 2005.
