Bank robbery and arrest reported in Creston, Iowa

The Creston (Iowa) Police Department is reporting the robbery of the Iowa State Savings Bank, located at 504 West Taylor Street in Creston, and the subsequent arrest of the man believed to have committed the illegal act.

At 1:25 on Thursday afternoon, a male subject went through the drive-thru at the bank and went on to inform the teller, “This is a robbery”, displaying a weapon in the process.

A description of both the vehicle and suspect were forwarded to law enforcement, with the vehicle spotted at the intersection of REA Road and Jaguar Avenue, with the subject arrested without incident at 2:46 PM on Thursday.

The man has been identified as 58-year-old Ricky Ryan Schnakel of Lorimor, Iowa.  He is facing charges of first-degree robbery and is being at the Union County Jail in Creston, on bond of $25,000.

Creston is approximately 110 miles north-northwest of Trenton, on Highway 34 in southwest Iowa, and 30 miles west of the Osceola exit on Interstate 35.
