Area firefighters had a busy day Saturday extinguishing grass fires.

The Grundy County Fire Protection District responded to four blazes during the late morning and afternoon hours.

About five acres burned along Route Y about three miles South of Route O. Less than one acre burned in the area of northeast 43rd Street and Route NN. The cause of those two fires was unknown.

Around 40 acres burned in a grass fire in the area of Southwest 58th Avenue and 25th Street. That blaze was attributed to a controlled burn getting away. Firefighters were on that scene about two hours.

Grundy County Rural and Trenton firefighters extinguished a grass fire just south of Trenton off Johnson drive which burned about one-half acre. That fire was attributed to a brush pile fire getting away.

No injuries were reported in the various blazes.
