Grundy County Emergency Management hosts an amateur radio course on April 16th and 23rd.  There is no charge for the instruction, but participants need to purchase a study guide, which costs about $22.00.  In addition, there is a charge of approximately $15.00 to take the FCC exam at the end of the course.  Participants do not need to take both classes.  However, they must attend the test session on April 23rd.

Enrollment can be done online at www.grundycountymoema.com/events.  Grundy County Emergency Management Director Glen Briggs says amateur radio operators play a vital role as storm spotters, helping with fairs and festivals, and assisting when communications systems are overloaded or disabled.

The course will “teach the basics of how to become an amateur ‘ham’ radio operator”.  People are asked to review the study guide before taking the class.
