Mondays’ absentee voting turned out to be a very busy day for the staff of the Grundy County Clerks office.

In total, 66 persons voted absentee at the Courthouse during a nine-hour period yesterday. Another 17 previously requested absentee ballots arrived in the mail or were delivered to the office yesterday. In four hours last Saturday, 50 absentees were voted at the courthouse.

With the deadline passing for absentee balloting, the number of absentees has risen to 566. Another 25 requested ballots remain out but some of them could arrive in the mail today.

As could be anticipated for a presidential election, this years’ absentee ballot count for Grundy County is almost up to the level of four years ago.

In 2012, with one candidate for president being an incumbent 590 absentee ballots were tabulated in Grundy County.

For 2008, the last time there was an open race for president, Grundy County had 606 absentee ballots then. Both of those years also had races for several statewide offices.

In the last general election, November 2014, when fewer offices were on the election ballot, Grundy county had 218 absentee ballots cast.
