Kiana Barnes, an A+ student from Chillicothe, Missouri, has been selected as North Central Missouri College’s Outstanding Student for September. Kiana plans to graduate with her transfer degree and then, continue her path at Missouri Western State University to obtain a degree in Social Work and Sociology.

At NCMC, Kiana was in Student Support Services (SSS) and also worked as a tutor in the SSS. “My favorite thing about NCMC was the SSS,” said Kiana. “I’ve grown so much in the last two years, and the SSS has really helped me through this time in my life.”

As a Social Work and Sociology major, Kiana’s favorite classes were Philosophy with Jack Smith and Sociology with Dr. Bach. Kiana said, “I loved how honest and factual those classes were. I learned so much, and those classes and those instructors are what made me decide on my major.”

When asked why Kiana chose NCMC she said, “I was an Upward Bound (UB) student, and UB showed me it was a great place to start my college career.” Kiana went on to say, “NCMC was an excellent choice. It is a good community, and I didn’t have to go far away to get a great education.”

Each month, a student is nominated by a faculty or staff member to be featured as an Outstanding Student based on their dedication to educational success, attitude toward learning, and hard work in their field and activities.
