2 children OK after being taken in carjacking

VINITA TERRACE, Mo. (AP) — Two children are safe and apparently unharmed after they were briefly taken in a carjacking in north St. Louis County.

Police say the crime happened Thursday morning when a man took a car with a 4-year-old girl and her 2-year-old brother inside. He let the children out about a half-mile away in University City minutes later.

The armed carjacker remains on the loose. Police are searching for the stolen BMW.

Police say the children’s mother left the kids in the car while she went inside to pay for gas. The man, armed with a gun, jumped in and took off.

Someone on Fairham Avenue in University City called police 15 minutes later to report seeing two children wandering down the street.
